   Prof. Keizo Takao's Laboratory
(Behavioral Physiology/Laboratory Animal Science )

"Mind" is one of many brain functions. The brain receives and processes various types of information necessary for the emergence of "mind". An individual's behavior is the final output of brain function. Even with today’s technology, it is difficult to directly study "mind", but analyses of brain and behavior contribute to elucidate the principles of "mind".

Our laboratory aims to resolve the cellular and molecular mechanisms of "mind", including memory, learning, and emotion, using behavioral genetics, optogenetics, pharmacologic and physiologic techniques. With these techniques, we also aim to resolve the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders and to develop treatments for these diseases. In addition, we are working to develop novel genetically engineered mice, and new reproductive technologies.

  Takao Laboratory is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and consists of the Department of Behavioral Physiology, School of Medicine (Undergraduate Course); the Major of Medical Science, Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Master Course); the Major of Cognitive and Emotional Neuroscience, Graduate School of Innovative Life Sciences (PhD Course); the Division of Animal Resources and Development and the Division of Radioisotope and Radiation Research, Life Sciences Research Center;  Research Center for Idling Brain Science; and the Research Center for Pre-Disease Science.

<Graduate School at Takao's Laboratory>
We are recruiting graduate students (Master's Program and Doctoral Program) as a Department of Behavioral Physiology. The Master's Program is a course to obtain a Master Degree (Medical Sciences) from the Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Doctoral Program is a course to obtain a PhD (Medical Sciences) from Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Medical and Life Sciences (the Major of Cognitive and Emotional Brain Sciences).

The Graduate Schools of the University of Toyama also offer a fall admission system, a transfer system, and a special selection system for working persons. It is also possible to enter the graduate school while still working.

We are looking forward to your participation, regardless of the department you are from. Tuition assistance is also available. If you are interested, please contact us.

Information on Entrance Examination of the Graduate Schools is available  here.
